The Sloan Museum of Discovery and Longway Planetarium are two beloved cultural destinations under one organization—but with distinct audiences, missions, and visitor experiences. 3Sixty Agency was engaged to design and build a website that celebrates both identities while creating a seamless, unified digital experience.
Our challenge was to craft a site that feels engaging and dynamic for families and students, while providing the structure and scalability a modern museum system needs to manage content, events, and visitor information efficiently.
Our Approach
We began by mapping user journeys for Sloan’s diverse audiences—from parents looking for weekend activities, to educators planning field trips, to museum members seeking updates and event details. The goal was to create an intuitive digital experience that guides each visitor quickly to what matters most to them.
Our design philosophy centered on “discovery through design”—a concept that mirrors the spirit of the museum itself. We introduced bold color palettes, playful iconography, and interactive visuals that reflect the energy of exploration and learning.
To support Longway Planetarium’s unique identity, we built design components that evoke wonder and curiosity, while maintaining visual cohesion with the Sloan Museum brand. This allowed each property to stand out while still feeling like part of one larger, integrated ecosystem.
A strong digital experience extends the museum’s mission beyond its walls. For today’s visitors, the website is often their first interaction with the institution—making design and usability essential to engagement and attendance.
The Solution
The new website delivers an experience that’s both playful and practical. Visitors can easily find exhibit information, purchase tickets, view upcoming events, and explore educational resources—all within a few intuitive clicks.
Behind the scenes, we developed a robust, modular content management system that gives Sloan’s staff the ability to update pages, add events, and launch new exhibits with ease. The backend structure was built to scale—ensuring long-term sustainability and minimizing maintenance costs.
Results & Impact
The redesigned site captures the excitement and accessibility of the Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium while simplifying the path to visit, explore, and engage.
Key outcomes include:
- Streamlined user navigation for multiple audience segments.
- Increased online engagement and ticket inquiries post-launch.
- Reduced administrative effort through improved backend usability.
We wanted to bring the same sense of discovery that defines the Sloan and Longway experience into their digital world. The result is a website that’s as inspiring as the destinations themselves.
